Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? We had our first snow a few days ago and temperatures have stayed below freezing so chances are good that we'll have some snow left on the ground for Santa's arrival. 

I love seeing homes decorated at this time of year with their colourful lights and glittery deer in the yard, but it all looks so much better with a fresh blanket of snow on top. Which is why, in the midst of a blowing snow storm, my camera and I ventured outside to capture these photos of our exterior Christmas decorations.

If you've seen my previous posts about our outdoor Christmas porch and exterior Christmas decor, you'll know that not too much changes year to year. We've come to rely on the same look... swagged garland on the fence with buffalo plaid red bows, wreaths on every window and on the chimney, and lit trees on the porch.

It would be nice to create a different Christmas house look each year, but there's something to be said for traditions at Christmas. I know that I will never tire of the look of wreaths on windows and I know our neighbours look forward to that tradition of ours too.

We added garland on the fence at the side of our house and it makes our holiday exterior look complete. It is a bit of an investment to have so much fresh garland but nothing else creates that nostalgic feel. 

I took these photos just as the sun went down. It was that beautiful golden hour, when the twinkle of the lights was visible and you could still see all the decorations.

Our outdoor Christmas porch decor features decorations I've had for years. There's the porch trees in galvanized buckets, wrapped faux gifts on a sleigh, outdoor lanterns, and plaid pillows. It's a cozy, traditional look that is inviting when viewed from the street.

Our green painted front door looks especially appropriate at this time of year. A long velvet bow and galvanized bells dress it up nicely.

The outdoor urns are ones I created myself. I use the same basic steps each year to create a Christmas planter that feels lush, unique, and slightly organic. I've learned to stress with floral arrangements. The more you let loose and allow the branches and boughs to do their thing, the better it looks.

I think we've finally got our exterior Christmas decorations to the point where they feel complete, classic, and like "us". In truth, I think that's how all your decor and your home should feel.
