Easy Spring Mantel Decorating Ideas
Are you eager to welcome spring? I'm ready to throw open the windows and
freshen up the indoors (even though we've still got snow on the ground)!
Though it still feels like we're in between seasons, adding in spring decor
and creating a simple spring mantel can help you quickly forget about any
lingering signs of winter.
Today I'm joining Krista at the Happy Housie for the Seasonal Simplicity tour
where my blogger friends and I are sharing ideas for decorating beautiful
spring mantels.
Spring Mantel Decorating Ideas
The fireplace mantel in our living room is one area I have so much fun
decorating. It's the natural focal point in the room and is the first thing
you see as soon as you enter our home. For this pretty mantel, I've decorated
with a warm color palette and vintage accessories for a layered look.
No matter how I decorate though, there are a few common elements you'll see in
my fresh spring mantel designs over the years. Have a look at my mantels from
2018
and
2019
below and see if you can spot what those common mantel decor ideas are:

Did you notice some spring ideas that appear year after year? These are my
tried and true decorating elements that always work. Here's a closer look at 5
easy spring mantel decorating ideas to help inspire your seasonal home decor.
1. Fresh Flowers
If you decorate with only one thing for spring, fresh flowers is the perfect
place to start. Even a few spring buds displayed in glass vases can liven up
an entire mantel. For this mantel, I've used branches of inexpensive baby's
breath placed in my shapely new vase. The small white flowers are delicate yet
architectural and bring dimension and texture to this vignette.
The wonderful thing about flowers is that they come in many varieties allowing
you to decorate in different styles. For a rustic spring mantel, try lavender
or dried wildflowers. For a vintage farmhouse spring mantel, hydrangeas or
boxwood might be more appealing. Do you prefer an easter mantel? Pastel hued
spring tulips would be the perfect choice. Pick a flower to suit your personal
style.
2. Large Art or Mirror
To really create an eye-catching mantel, start with a large anchor piece. This
can be anything from framed art, to vintage mirrors, painted signage, a large
wreath, or an old window frame. Ideally, you'll have this large piece at the
centre of your mantel vignette and place all of your smaller pieces on either
side of it. The anchor piece will help draw your eye to the mantel. It also
helps balance the heaviness and size of the firebox below.
3. Objects of Different Heights
Your decor will seem much more interesting when you incorporate objects of
varying heights. Using items like tapers in candle holders or branches of
cherry blossoms in a tall vase can draw your eye upwards and fill up the wall
space. Conversely, a small vintage picture frame, tiny ceramic bunnies or a
collection of glass jars, can help fill out your display and ensure there are
no gaps.
Using a mix of high and low objects is a great way to keep the eye moving but
it can be a little bit challenging to get the balance just right. For variety,
place small items on a stack of books to add height. You can also layer items
like artwork, one in front of the other, to fill out your whole look.
4. Natural Elements
Similar to fresh flowers, natural elements are a perfect way to incorporate
the new season into your decor. Think about what you see in nature at this
time of year and bring those elements and natural colors to your mantel.
Decorate with a faux nest and easter eggs for farmhouse spring mantels. Use
faux boxwood wreaths, moss in pots, or faux branches for a more traditional or
rustic displays.
The good news is you can step outside and gather decor from your front yard
like rocks or branches, or head to the nearest Hobby Lobby or Michaels for
your choice of faux greenery and natural accents.
5. Bright Colors
Even if you prefer a neutral color scheme, spring almost demands that you
incorporate bright colors into your seasonal decor. No season is more hopeful
and optimistic than spring and with bright colors you can convey new energy
and rebirth.
You can bring in color with flowers, seasonal easter decorations like Easter
eggs or egg wreath, artwork, vases, or books. This display of pink flowers
paired with pink and claret-hued books feels just right. Your use of color can
be judicious and intentional. It doesn't have to be pastel spring colors or
yellow everything.
No matter your decorating style, these spring creative ideas can find a way into your home. In the coming weeks, I'll share what the rest of the room looks like along with more easy ideas for spring. Now click on over to see different spring mantel decor ideas from my blogger friends.
