Well, this room is looking quite different! We switched Chloe's bedroom for our guest bedroom recently and I'm slowly getting both rooms back in order. Here's a first peek at the guest bedroom. There's still a lot to do and I haven't quite decide what I want this room to be. Is it coastal? Is it vintage? For now, it's "get the room functional".

Aside from the new headboard and metal bed frame, everything in this room is something we already had. The botanical prints were moved from the old room and are now displayed with two on either side of the window. I like how this corner is coming along but the area above the headboard is begging for a piece of art.

Choosing art for the bedroom is, I think, easier than choosing art for the more public spaces in your home. Since you won't be having lots of guests in your bedroom space, you can be more personal with your art choices. You can hang artwork that really speaks to you and you alone.

Years ago, I used to write a semi-regular series on this blog, "The Best of Etsy". Etsy truly is my first source for art, especially downloads and prints. You can anything you want on Etsy, from original oil paintings to framed prints to downloadable vintage art you can print at home. 

Having such a wide range of choice makes it possible to find something that suits your style and your budget. While you can certainly put any type of art you'd like on your walls, for a bedroom I find that these styles and subject matter work well:

• Art that can be displayed as a set of 2, 3 or 4 prints. Two or three prints above a headboard create a nice horizontal display. A set of two or four prints can be display vertically to fill a narrow wall space. Matching prints can also be displayed above side tables, to bring a sense of symmetry
• Landscapes, bird prints and scenes from nature can bring a calm and serene feeling to a bedroom
• Nude sketches and line drawings add intimacy
• Abstract paintings in soothing tones work well in peaceful, monochromatic settings
• Long horizontal prints can act as a dramatic focal point above a headboard
• Art with a dark background lends a moody, cozy feel to a bedroom
