12 Fall Home Decor Ideas for 2021

There's still a few weeks of summer left but my attention has transitioned to fall. Perhaps it's these hot, humid temperatures lately, but I'm looking forward to cooler days, wearing layers, and changing the palette in my home decor.

Fall is a chance to warm things up and there's no better way to do that than with russet tones, deep charcoal, and warmer whites. By bringing in saturated and warm colours, you can create a feeling of comfort, coziness, and slowing down.

Fall Home Decor Ideas

More than any other season, I find that fall lends itself well to traditional and classic styles. Fall home decor for 2021 sees a continuation of the English country look, with small scale patterns, classic art, and natural materials taking centre stage.

Here's 12 fall home decor ideas that will have your home on trend for 2021:

1. Equestrian Art

The world of digital art has made it extremely easy to update your walls for the season. Etsy has many sellers who have curated art that has fallen into the public domain and you can find prints for any subject matter (here's a roundup of vintage landscapes). For fall, equestrian art seems just right. The mossy greens, beiges, and mustard yellows found in horse prints bring moody colour to your home.

2. Wooden Knobs

Even the smallest of details can have big impact. These mango wood knobs add instant texture and warmth. Use them to switch out the knobs on your bedside nightstand, bifold doors, or kitchen cabinets. For a clever update, pair them with a vintage dresser where their earthy colour and pleasant shape bring contrast.

3. Alabaster Lighting

If you're looking to update your lighting this season, go for something in alabaster. This classic material feels new and unexpected. The warm glow of a lightbulb shines through the veining in this flush mount light. Off or on, this light is sure to catch your attention.

4. Artificial Fall Leaves

Bring nature indoors with these fake fall leaves. These terracotta fake seeded eucalyptus leaves are a no-fuss way to add organic texture and colour. Use 4-5 branches to achieve a lush, full look.

5. Washable Dark Runner

The dark hues in this rug (it's completely washable!) make it a standout in any kitchen or hallway. With a classic Persian motif rendered in modern grey, beige, and persimmon, this runner feels both worn in yet updated.

6&7. Solid and Patterned Porcelain Plates

As we head into entertaining season, liven up your tablescape with new dish ware. This porcelain plate with dark gray floral pattern looks delicate and feminine. In contrast, a porcelain plate in solid gray brings weight and substance. Paired together, you have a timeless look ready to liven your next dinner party.

8. Smoke Glass Cooler

Everything 70's is hip again. This smoke glassware is moody and sophisticated yet simple enough for everyday use. Try serving it with a signature cocktail to really make it shine.

9. Printed Paper Napkins

Paper napkins this chic bring style to any soiree. The olive motif feels right for the season. I'd use these alongside a seasonal charcuterie board with grapes, dates, crusty breads, and creamy cheeses.

10. Copper Flatware Set

Any peek on Instagram will tell you that copper is the metal finish most in demand these days. This copper flatware set feels just right for the hearty soups of the season. The warm tone and shiny finish contrasts nicely with neutral dish ware, marble, and linen.

11. Floral Print Pillow Cover

With a bluish-cream hue, and all-over repeating floral pattern, this is the pillow you need to liven up your bed or your sofa. It's neutral enough to blend in with your existing textiles but stands out for its interesting pattern and large size.

12. Woven Border Plaid Throw Blanket

My husband might not agree, but I think there's always a need for a good woven throw. This chenille woven throw feels autumnal yet timeless. The border plaid detail in a burnt orange colour is crisp and striking. Lay this throw at the end of the bed, across an ottoman, or hung on a peg rail for a delightful touch to your fall home decor.
