A Summer Mantel With Thrifted and Foraged Finds
And just like that, June is here. I love June because it always brings that
first, long-awaited taste of summer.
A note to subscribers who receive my blog posts by email: I'm switching
email providers, so expect to see future emails in a new and improved
format!
And with that comes a desire to freshen our homes and bring a bit of summer
indoors. Today, I'm joining the Seasonal Simplicity summer tour hosted
by Krista at
The Happy Housie
and sharing my summer mantel.
To me, summer is all about easy living so that's how I've decorated my mantel.
I've put together this mantel vignette using art and books I already had, plus
some thrifted finds and plants foraged from my garden. It's fun to create a
look on a $0 budget!
The art is a piece called
Let's Go
from Minted. I first used it in our
tropical dining room transformation. It has a feeling of escapism, inviting you to run away and embark on an
adventure. After months spend inside our homes, I'm sure we all have that
feeling these days!
These blooms were forget-me-nots I had foraged from the garden a few days ago.
Sadly their pretty tiny blue flowers have disappeared but I still like the
spare, still-life quality of their branches. The older I get, the more I
appreciate both the living and dying of plant life. There's beauty in all of
it.
I found both of these vases at the thrift store. Oh how I miss going to thrift
stores! We are still under lockdown so for now I'm resigned to shopping
online. But of course, I wouldn't find anything as special as that vintage
green vase online. It even has a hole in the back for drainage.
A hanging basket filled with faux flowers sits behind. Sadly, the basket has
never looked quite right so I won't recommend it. The
mister
is a favourite accessory that is both functional and pretty. I totally
consider it a
beautilitarian decor item.
I've moved the living room furniture around and have our cube ottomans sitting
on either side of the fireplace. And DEAL ALERT: I just saw that
HomePop has these ottomans on sale for $84 USD
on their website which is an amazing price. They are really great quality,
nice and solid with ample storage.
A
striped pillow
from Tonic Living (you know I'm a fan of mixing patterns) and a throw from
Rainsford Company
add texture and contrast to our neutral living room.
Such simple changes just right for the season. I hope you've enjoyed my
summer mantel with thrifted and foraged finds!
