Vintage Botanical Printables for Spring
It definitely doesn't feel like spring here yet but there's no denying it'll
be here soon. The days are getting longer and that's enough to get me thinking
about opening the windows, getting out in the garden, and giving everything a
refresh.
Free Vintage Botanical Printables
Today I'm joining my blogger friends in the kickoff to the
Spring Seasonal Simplicity series. We're sharing spring printables and
I've put together a collection of free
Vintage Botanical Spring Printables
for you to download.
I'd rather be out at the thrift store searching for 'real' vintage art but
with our city still under lockdown, this is next best thing. Nothing says
"spring" more than flowers and plants.
Where To Get Vintage Botanical Prints For Free
Did you know that you can easily get vintage botanical prints for free? There
are a wealth of organizations like museums and scientific organizations that
have put their art and book collections in the public domain and are available
for download. Here's a few of my favourite sources:
Interesting fact: I obtained the images above from a scan of Flora Graeca, a
publication of the plants of Greece in the late 18th century. Each of the 10
volumes in the publication required 100 engraved plates. Only 25 copies of the
First Edition were ever printed, making it the most costly book ever about
flora. But now a digital scan of the publication exists, allowing you to have
these printables in your own home. Isn't it wonderful that we have access to
these old images?
I've taken these images and cleaned them up a bit, added in the scientific
names, put them on a uniform background, and sized them to 10"x8. You can
print them at home on a standard 11" x 8.5" sheet of paper or have them
professionally printed like I've done.
Displaying Botanical Prints
You can display your botanical prints as a collection. Place them in matching
frames for a cohesive look like
Bless'erhouse has done with these tree prints. Or, you can scatter them around your home; hang or display them wherever
you want a touch of spring.
I specifically wanted to create horizontal printables. I like how they look on
shelves; they help to fill up the space. The hints of blue in this print echo
the blue wallpaper.
Art In The Kitchen
The kitchen backsplash is another spot where I like to display art. This is a
narrow space so the horizontal print fits perfectly and tucks in just behind
my utensils. Art in a kitchen can be unexpected so adding in even a simple
print can refresh and uplift a space.
I've included four different varieties of botanicals. Click the button below
to download the entire set. I hope they help you bring a bit of spring into
your home!
