Our Living Room Decorated for Christmas
Welcome! If you're joining here from the Seasonal Simplicity Christmas Home Tour hosted by Krista at The Happy Housie, please come on in. I hope you enjoyed a good look around We're The Joneses colourful home. Today I'm sharing the place where we gather at Christmastime, our living room. If you'd like to see more, I'll be sharing other rooms of our home decorated for Christmas later this week.
This post has been written in partnership with Canadian Tire.
Getting our living room decorated for Christmas is a task I look forward to every year. I love trying to create new looks and using new colours and accessories to give our home a different feel. This year, I wanted to outfit the living room with elegant but cozy living room Christmas decor. That meant creating spots for settling in and getting comfortable while giving the eye lots of things to notice and enjoy.
Living Room Christmas Decorations
Whether your living room is large or small, you can create a welcoming atmosphere for your family and friends. I like to focus on a few key areas.
The Christmas Tree
Let me start with the grand showpiece in the room, the Christmas tree. For the last few years, I was struggling with a tree that had seen better days. It had a string of lights that kept flickering on and off, it was a bit narrow for this space, and every year I wrestled with trying to figure out how to correctly connect the power cords in the tree.
So I was excited when Canadian Tire reached out to collaborate this holiday season. Canadian Tire has always been the destination for everything winter, from skates to snow shovels, and Christmas decor is no exception. Their CANVAS collection features the prettiest and most realistic trees I've seen and when I saw this one in store, the CANVAS Micro-brite Muskoka Fir 7.5' Christmas Tree, it stopped me in my tracks.
I loved the feathery ornaments paired with the glisten of the bead garlands and velvet ribbon. Putting ribbon on a Christmas tree is something I still need to work on but I couldn't resist the touch of luxury that ribbon adds. It can't be too sophisticated though - I have a 10 year old in the house and she always wants more whimsical decor so I added in shimmery rose gold balls and the sweetest fur deer ornaments.
Additional Seating
Chances are you'll be welcoming guests into your home over the holidays so it's a good idea to have extra seating available. I like to plan our living room layout so there's different areas for conversation and ensure that everyone has a seat. This chair by the living room door is a handy spot to put down gifts or to quickly sit as you're putting your winter boots back on. One of the prints from my Christmas Fun Bundle adds a cozy and playful touch above.
But this buffalo plaid chair is the one everyone fights over. I've made it even more irresistible with the softest fleece throw and festive pillow from the Canvas Christmas collection. On a side note, you can never have too many plaids at Christmas time!
I've dressed this side table with just a few more mulberry hued accessories. I like to leave table space to put down drinks and smartphones. I've tucked another ottoman beneath, to provide easy seating when needed.
The Mantel
The living room fireplace is always a draw at this time of year. The fireplace mantel is a great place to showcase your style. You can see that I've coordinated the mantel with the tree, repeating the same rich, red hues throughout.Display Shelves:
Whether it's a bookcase, a sideboard, or a single floating shelf, you can use your vertical space to display more of your accessories. You don't need to worry about things coordinating - if you love them, they'll work in your home!I've brought more of my cozy accents to this end of the room. Anything with texture or fur can bring a cozy Christmas feel. Did you spot the cutest pair of tiny fur boots from Canvas??
But my seating of choice is on our English roll arm sofa. I love the subtle hit of black from my tartan pillows. It's the perfect spot to enjoy the Christmas lights and the glow of the fireplace.
I hope you've enjoyed this tour of my living room decorated for Christmas. I'll be sharing my bedroom and entryway next, but for now, click on over to Home Made Lovely and see Shannon's space all decked out. Don't forget to come back every day this week to see 50 beautiful Christmas home tours!
