One Room Challenge | Week 3 | Furniture and Fabric Finds

It's Week 3 of the One Room Challenge and time seems to be just whizzing by. This week's focus has been getting all the foundation pieces updated. The walls have been painted in the chicest warm white, Wimborne White by Farrow and Ball, the new baseboards and trim from Metrie have been installed, and by week's end, we should have the doors, also from Metrie, put in!
It's amazing how just changing the paint from the intense dark blue to white has already made a huge difference in this space. My sister came to check out our progress and said "I love your light fixture!" and I said "This one? We've had it here for over a year!"
I love how design can do that... bring your attention to things you might not have noticed. Putting a room together is like writing a song and ultimately you want to create a melody that is music to your ears. The biggest notes in that song are undoubtedly the furniture.
The Furniture
Like the light, we already had a few of these furniture pieces like the bed and nightstands. There was no need to replace them - we just needed a room to help them shine! I've filled out the rest of the design plan with furniture that is a mix of masculine and feminine, light and dark, clean modern lines and curvy classics.
It was time to upgrade my old Ikea vanity with something a bit more sleek. This grey and gold desk has a faux shagreen finish, making it a luxurious spot to get ready every morning. I'm pairing it with a simple round black mirror and a striped dining chair. I was specifically looking for a chair with no arms and the dove grey stripes will ensure that this chair looks great tucked in when it's not in use.
Speaking of stripes, this handsome bench from HomePop will make an appearance in the room too. The charcoal fabric will ground the room and contrast nicely against the white walls. I like the shelf beneath too - a good spot to store my slippers which I'm always misplacing!
The most anticipated piece of furniture though has to be this black dresser. I tried and tried to find an alternative, something a bit more budget friendly, but from the moment I saw it, I knew it was the one. With the change in layout, we would have room for a wider dresser. Our old dresser was a dark espresso so I had been looking for a lighter piece, but the bamboo details won me over. The dresser will be placed against the wallpapered wall with some gorgeous artwork hanging above (more on that soon!)
The Fabrics
To balance the hard edges of the furniture, you need fabric. I love that you can change the personality of a room just by changing out the fabrics. Like all of our rooms, I like our spaces to be beautiful but not stuffy. Using more casual fabrics is a great way to achieve that feeling.
I was thrilled to see that Pom Pom At Home was one of the ORC sponsors. Their bedding... dreamy is the only way to describe it! They have such a gorgeous collection of bedding that it was tough to narrow down exactly what 'look' I wanted to achieve for our bedroom. It was love at first sight though when I spied the Jackson collection. I love stripes (if it wasn't obvious!) and this one in a subtle grey-green and rendered in a luxurious linen forms the basis of my bedroom dreams. I can't wait for warmer weather to have that duvet cover folded at the foot of the bed, bringing a beachy, relaxed feel to our room.
To add some colour into the bedroom, I'm pairing the striped duvet with the Huntington Coverlet and Shams. I can't even begin to tell you how stunning this bedding looks in person. It is the perfect washed out green colour and has a gorgeous texture.
You can't make a bed without a few good pillows. This one (it's reversible!) from Pom Pom At Home and this one from Arianna Belle will hopefully work nicely together.
And then there's the drapery fabric. Once again, I'm honoured to have the support of Tonic Living for this project. You've heard me talk about Tonic Living time and time again - they are the makers of the classic roman blinds with ribbon banding detail from my ORC living room, and pretty much made all of the curtains and pillows for my previous home. My love for them runs deep!
For this project, I tried - I really did! - to explore a different style and try something new. But if my previous master bedroom taught me anything (we kept those bedroom curtains for eight years!), it's to stick with what you love. And for me, that's plaid. I debated going with this fabric, this one, and this one, but in the end the Dunning Grey won out. It picks up all of the colours in the room and really has a nice woven texture.
