A Cozy and Classic Christmas Home Tour
Hello! If you're joining here from the Canadian Bloggers Christmas Home Tour hosted by Shannon of AKA Design and Christina Dennis of The DIY Mommy, welcome! We moved into our house just days before last Christmas and didn't decorate too much so I'm excited about the holidays this year. So come on in and have a look around at our cozy and classic Christmas style!
Let's start in the entryway. Ours is a centre hall Colonial and it doesn't have too much space at the entry, just enough to put a cabinet and mirror. I've always wanted a Santa figurine and when I saw this little guy on sale, I couldn't resist bringing him home. He's oh-so-Canadian in his buffalo plaid shirt ;)
I crave texture at this time of year, and greenery, real or faux, is a great way of bringing that in. I layered cedar and pine roping along the banister and added in silver dollar eucalyptus and magnolia tips for extra fullness and colour. A simple 2.5" wide black satin ribbon brings a touch of sophistication and simplicity.
Let's head into the living room...
We renovated this room as part of the Spring One Room Challenge and it really is the heart of our home. We spend most of our time here together, even though it has no TV. Of course, we might be on our devices watching Amazon Prime or playing Toca Boca games (our favourites!), but at least we're together ;)
We all congregate around the fire and I wanted to decorate the mantle very simply with a magnolia garland and candles. I keep debating whether I should switch out the mirror for the season but I haven't found anything I love more than that shield mirror so it stays. I've made it festive with a handmade wreath which I'll give a tutorial on very soon. I've had the skate stockings for years (they were from Indigo) but have always wanted three stockings that matched so recently picked up some cable-knit stockings on sale and will replace them soon. These look cute for now though!
I've pared down my decor a lot more in this house. I love the feeling of breathing space between objects. A few touches of faux and real greenery keep the room celebratory but you're not tripping over the decorations. I'm all about comfort in the winter. New green velvet pillows (they're from Ikea!) and throws add to the cozy feel.
I was excited to have a larger space to put our Christmas tree. This year, I went with a mix of neutral, black, white and natural elements. The toned down palette felt right for this classic room. Plus, I think the tree colours look great against the creamy linen drapes with the deep navy grosgrain ribbon banding.
When it comes to tree decorating, my mantra is more is more ;) I really love the matte black ornaments and the oversized white ones. Every time I look at the tree, I spot something different!
This cozy corner is always a favourite. The buffalo check pattern on the custom Barrymore chair is a classic but looks especially inviting at this time of year. Throw on a faux fur throw and sheepskin on the floor and I just might never get up from this spot.
A few other displays fill out the corners of the room...
And I even managed to get real presents bought, wrapped, and placed beneath the tree! I'm feeling very much on top of my holiday game this year which is completely out of the norm. I'm usually in the stores buying at the last minute, ha!
I love how this room looks in the sunshine but it has a magic glow at night. I can't wait to welcome friends and family into this space over the coming weeks.
I have more to show you, so come back tomorrow for a fun DIY Christmas craft, and on Thursday I'll share the exterior of our home all decked out for the season. Here's a peek!
