Decorating for the End of Summer
It's that time of year when life, and the house, is in transition. The kids are back in school and parents find themselves welcoming the old routines. Summer heat gives way to hot-then-cool-then-hot-then-rainy days. And you find yourself enticed by all of the cool-weather gear in the stores while shopping in your shorts and sandals.
I'm not quite ready to jump full force into fall so I've decorated for a sort of in between stage. I rediscovered these botanical prints tucked in our storage room in the basement and they feel right for this time of year. Floral but moody, in the green, brown, and yellow shades late summer brings.
Pops of red around the room warm up the space and my favourite check pillow covers make a reappearance. The heavy throws stay tucked away and it's not yet time to turn on the fireplace... but you know those days will soon be here.
Small changes are just enough. A slow wave goodbye to summer.
