Do you ever get overwhelmed by social media? On our recent vacation, it was nice to step away from the computer and just enjoy a quiet life for a while. There always seems to be a hot new application popping up... the next Twitter or Instagram that you have to jump on. And when you're a blogger, that can be daunting because you feel you need to have a presence on all the social media channels!
A few weeks ago, I attended a social media conference and heard about the 'next new thing': Periscope. I was skeptical but once I started watching more Periscope broadcasts, the more I saw how much of a game changer this application really is. So what is Periscope? In a nutshell, it's an application that allows you to live-stream from your phone: you create your own TV channel and anyone in the world can watch you.
It's magic lies in sharing things instantaneously with no filters, no editing. It's easier to do than creating a YouTube video and is real time like Twitter. I've seen celebrities give sneak peeks while they're filming on set or even from the comfort of their home, no makeup on. There are people scoping scenes from their travels (I did one in Niagara Falls) or capturing beautiful but simple everyday moments. If there is something cool or fun you're experiencing, chances are someone else will find it just as fun too so why not share it?
I decided we'll be using Periscope for BlogPodium, to give our followers a taste of our conference even when they're not there. And later today at 12pm EST we have a very exciting announcement to make so follow BlogPodium on Periscope (here's how to do that). If anything, its a reason for you to check out this new app everyone is talking about! But do it quick because Periscope broadcasts only last for 24 hours then they're gone forever.
Do you use Periscope? Who do you follow? I'm on the lookout for people who give entertaining and informative broadcasts.
