Summer Home Decor
Away from the chaos of the basement remodel, I've been enjoying the long days
and endless sunshine. Summer finally feels like it's here and I wanted to
bring that feeling indoors. The Seasonal Simplicity home tours, hosted by
Krista at
The Happy Housie, have been happening all week and today I'm sharing my summer home decor. If you've arrived here from The Tattered Pew's lovely home, welcome!
This season - as with the last few months staying at home - is about using
what I have in new and refreshing ways. Come join me in the living room. With
the basement remodel almost finished, we were able to bring the swivel chairs
back downstairs and rearrange this space. We had moved things around a few
months ago but
the layout
was just not working for us. Time to get it feeling right and functioning for
how we live.
Somehow, I've turned into a bit of a plant lady. There are now five plants in
the house that I've managed to keep alive. That is a record! The front window
gets the best light so I've moved them to this end of the room. Tucked around
the buffalo plaid chair, it creates a cozy corner.
I've put the sailboat and blue desk back in front of the window. I know we've
had this arrangement before and could change it out, but when it works, why
tamper with it? Even the neighbours seem to love the look. A few have
commented on how much they enjoy seeing that sailboat in the window.
One change I have made is placing the
storage ottomans
in front of the fireplace. I was always worried that putting them there would
block off traffic, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It'll be great extra
seating for when we have guests - whenever that is allowed to happen again!
When it's summer, I can't help but bring out all the blue and white
accessories. They feel bright and crisp and cheery. I grabbed a branch from
our Japanese Maple and placed it in my large blue glass jug. I love how the
leaves feel sculptural and draw your attention but the clear jug still allows
light to pass through from the back window (which is in need of a cleaning,
ha!).
Faux greenery in a basket and a landscape painted by Chloe add softness to
the bookcase shelving. The Google Mini isn't quite as attractive but it is a
necessity. Sitting in the living room on a sunny afternoon, John Mayer
playing in the background, is one of my favourite ways to experience this
room.
Let's head over to another summery space, the dining room.
With it's
colourful botanical wallpaper, this room can't help but feel like summer. I've carried the blue
accessories into this room, displaying my blue and white ginger jars on the
pedestal and on the sideboard.
I'm excited to be working with Le Creuset Canada this summer to bring
awareness to their new dinnerware colours. While Le Creuset is known for their
bright bold hues, I fell for their new neutral,
Meringue. It's a soft and modern beige that feels current yet also timeless.
I decided to create a simple summer tablescape. Against a white tablecloth,
the Meringue tableware feels soft and elegant. There's just a hint of colour
and it allows the other elements to shine.
As a centrepiece, I've used the
Le Creuset pitcher
and filled it with branches and peonies from our garden. I'm quite happy
with how this asymmetrical flower arrangement turned out. The deep dark
colour of the Japanese maple leaves make the pale pink peonies pop. Don't
you love peony season? It's so brief but the blooms are worth waiting for.
Each place setting has been decorated with a napkin tied in a knot. Summer
decorating should be simple and easy, don't you think? In the back you can
see the classic
Le Creuset mug. As an avid coffee drinker, this is my absolute favourite mug. It's
a good weight, the glazed finish feels good in your hand, and it's the
perfect size. The Meringue colour looks delicious holding a foamy latte!
I hope you've enjoyed my summer home decor. Now I hope you'll continue the tour and head over to see Zevy Joy's lovely home.
